The new American Psychological Association Magazine is out with the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
There are 11.8 million adults over the age of 18 that have self-perceived, unmet needs for Mental Health services.
The reasons for not receiving mental health services are as follows:
38% couldn't afford the cost of treatment
28% thought they could handle the problem on their own without treatment
21% did not know where to go for services
20% said they did not have the time to seek treatment
13% said their health insurance wouldn't cover Mental Health services
12% were concerned about being committed or having to take medication
11% said it might cause neighbors or the community to have a negative reaction (Stigma)
10% thought treatment would not help
